This is an excellent and well-written college level introductory sociology textbook. It's about the study of people, human social life, socialization, class and inequality, gender and racial dynamics, family, ethnicity, the psychology of alienation, collective behavior, the impact of global economics upon people, and similar topics.
It would be suitable for the advanced homeschooling student who is motivated to understand the world around us. Adult topics are handled sensitively, and complex issues are presented in a way that informs without overwhelming the reader. This is a great book, and manages to do a wonderful job of introducing many topics pertinent to the human race.

Level Three Leadership: Getting Below the Surface (5th Edition) Review

Level Three Leadership: Getting Below the Surface (5th Edition)
Average Reviews:

At first glance, this might seem to be yet another standard text about management and employee relations. You'll be pleased to find that, instead, author James G. Clawson has written an engaging book about history, human psychology and the modern workplace. He offers intriguing insights, strong research and even a New Age wrinkle or two, with a few well-placed comments about meditation, inner vision and martial arts. Despite a few redundant passages, this is not a dry HR manual, though it provides helpful professional charts and summaries. With its you-need-to-know-this-now tone and its comments about gravity, magic and inner vision, the book is actually fun. We recommend it to managers at all tiers, to employees seeking advancement and to MBA candidates.

Music Cultures of the Pacific, the Near East, and Asia (3rd Edition) Review

Music Cultures of the Pacific, the Near East, and Asia (3rd Edition)

I could wish that the scores had been done better, but the text gives you a better feel for music cultures that are truly unique.
The pictures of the instruments is a real help.
The west seems to be really only ahead in mechanical reproduction of music,
not instrumentation of even music theory.
Indian music has a very wide theory and long tradition.

American Encounters Review

American Encounters

This book could have a slightly more readable format. In my case, it is an assigned textbook. What I like best is the selection of examples, especially in the early 20th Century portion, and the thoughtful description of each example. I would hope it gets selected by a lot of professors so it can be found used and not so costly.

American Encounters is a long-awaited dynamic new narrative of the history of American art that focuses on historical encounters among diverse cultures, upon broad structural transformations such as the rise of the middle classes and the emergence of consumer and mass culture, and on the fluid exchanges between "high" art and vernacular expression. The text emphasizes the intersections among cultures and populations, as well as the influences, borrowings, and appropriations that have enriched and vitalized our collective cultural heritage. There was a readily perceived need for an up-to-date survey of American art that addressed the thematic, cultural, and historical concerns of the field in the 21st century. American Encounters offers a new narrative of American art organized around the theme of cross-cultural exchanges. It locates America at the cross-roads of cultural encounters between Asia, Africa, Europe, and the New World, for over five centuries. The authors do not treat traditions separately, rather they explore how peoples and cultures encounter and influence each other and then evolve based on an exchange of ideas, materials etc.

I am enrolled in a lower division Native American Cultural Anthropology class. I took the prerequisite Culteral Anthropology class in 1974. I researched Raymond Scupins qualifications before ordering this book. This book is a valuable tool and easy to comprehend. It cleary describes theory and vocabulary for the field. I strongly recommend this book.

This books really gets inside the culture of the Prison Environment. It presents a balanced view of a complex subject (to say the least). It answers the question, "What's it like in prison?" without all of the Hollywood horror or glory that usually paints a distorted picture. A must-read for anyone who's interested in working in the Corrections field. Having worked on a maximum yard 'on the inside' for many years, I found myself nodding 'yes' throughout this easy-reading book. Very well-written.

Science, Technology and Society Review

Science, Technology and Society

Robert McGinn's new book, was beautifully written, encorperating his personal life into the intracate story of his proffession, Science, Technology, and Society. With gripping Case Studies, to tender personal jokes, this book scores on a list of boring Technology books. Although it gets dense at times, it is an excellent book, and I reccommend it for part of a college course reader

The textbook I received from this seller was in great condition. Buying through Amazon is certainly better than paying $100+ for the same textbook in the bookstore. I appreciate the availability this seller provided for me. I hope that, in the future, this seller can do the same for other people.
