(More customer reviews)It was quite difficult to find a good book on international financial markets/managements. Since it inevitably involves the concepts such as forward/swap, exchange rate risks, interest parity, balance of payments, and so on, a good book needs to have some rigor in clearly explaining important concepts (a good intro for Ph.Ds) and to contain good introduction to how international financial markets work in reality (wonderful reference for MBAs).
I had an opportunity to read an earlier draft of this book when I took International finance course a few years ago taught by Professor Hodrick himself. The draft did a superb job in explaining the theories and international financial markets at the same time. I'm really glad this has been finally published so that other people outside his classrooms have access to these materials. I got hold of this book today and it seems it's been more polished than the draft I had.
I wish the solution manual could come out together, but I heard it's on the way.

With the coming of age of "management of knowledge" this is a great tool to use to improve business processes. Definitely worth every single penny spent - but especially if you are interested in learning tangible methods!

(More customer reviews)I am currently taking an auditing class (ACCT 424B) with Dr. Hayes (the main author) as the professor. The nature of this book is international, yet it is completely relevant to American standards, including recent developments such as Sarbannes-Oxley. The exercises are very helpful in making you think about the concepts presented. Examples of CPA exam questions are interspersed throughout the book. Illustrations (including sample documents) are clear and understandable. The accompanying web site also includes multiple choice questions for each chapter. Given that this is not published in the U.S., it is a good value, considering what I've paid for other accounting textbooks. As for Dr. Hayes, he's a good teacher who keeps us up to date.

(More customer reviews)I used this book in two "Business Analysis using Financial Statements" financial accounting classes and found it to be useful the few times I needed to use it as a reference.
The text represents what I think is a fair mix of both accounting (the reading and interpretation of financial statements) and finance (the valuation) perspectives. It contains more or less what I would have expected from a book with "A Valuation Approach" in the title: multiples, various valuation models (DCF, APV, etc), etc. But it's technically an accounting book in my mind, so it also contains examples for all of the major topics that it covers using 10-Ks, 10-Qs, and other SEC statements as examples.

The Horngren System of instruction replicates the classroom experience by providing more "I get it" moments outside of class.We've talked to tons of POA instructors and our editors have even taken the accounting course (numerous times!) to figure out the following issue in this course that is consistent: Students understand (or "get it") right after you do a problem in class, but as soon as they leave class, with each passing hour, their ability to do the problems again and complete their homework diminishes to the point of them either having to come to office hours to get help, or they just quit and get behind in the course. Neither is it over priced as a business reference book. Compare, for example, the CCH Master Tax Guide, which is about double the price. I have used this book for years in courses I have taught at both the graduate and undergraduate levels. I've also used the book in my CPA practice for 20+ years. In the 1980s, I studied under Drs. Claire and Gordon May, so I know that the book is based on a combined minimum 60 years of experience in working with accounting students and CPAs. It is now in its 8th edition. The authors put a great deal of effort into ensuring that it is always fresh and up-to-date. It is an invaluable resource, especially for developing professionals.

This really made it difficult to do homework because I need the files. This was the only problem with the book because there was no indication that the CD was broken if I would have known that i probably wouldn't have bought it. The description just mentioned that it included a CD but in the description of the seller there was no indication that the CD was broken it just said the book was in good condition.
