Traffic Flow Fundamentals Review

Traffic Flow Fundamentals
Average Reviews:

The title is no exaggeration: This book is the THE fundamental source of traffic flow theory.
I know no book that is that comprehensive; the extensive coverage of macroscopic and microscopic traffic flow theory is supplemented by traffic demand modeling, intersection planning, traffic simulation...
I am not aware of another publication containing such a broad content. Regardless whether you are scientist in traffic modeling or practitioner, there is no alternative to this book. Although not updated since 1990, most is still valid today. A remarkable exception is the chapter about traffic simulation since the significant progress during the last two decades is not covered (-1 star).
Plus, the physical quality is very low: Soft-cover almost as thin as any page, printed in black & white, weak binding (some pages loose after only a week of careful reading). For approximately $100, I'd expect better. (-1 star).
Regardless of these handicaps, I strongly recommend this book. There is no better. I hope, though, there will be an updated edition one day.

Used worldwide, this is one of the best selling simulations for use in senior level business strategy, global strategy, marketing management, services marketing/management, airline management and tourism managment courses. The book that is listed is the STUDENT MANUAL for the course. The instructor will have the software for the simulation. This is not a stand-alone product but must be administered by the instructor in the course. This book would be the same book as purchased in the college bookstore.

Easy to start-up and use—even for readers with no computer experience—this Windows based strategic management simulation turns individuals into teams with the responsibility of running a regional airline. By analyzing a company's history, financial reports, and other information provided, the teams make decisions concerning hiring, forecasting, suppliers to use, costs, etc. Teams are challenged to establish objectives, plan the strategy to accomplish those objectives, and then operate the airline on a quarter-by-quarter basis. Each team's decisions are input into a computer which acts as the flying public and assigns sales to each firm based on the decisions each has made. Team members are shown how to keep adequate records, analyze happenings and develop relationships, effectively organize the team, and delegate the work. For use by various organizations promoting team building, strategic management, and marketing strategy.

An Introduction to Mathematical Biology Review

An Introduction to Mathematical Biology

This is a very nice book for who has some previous knowledge about college math and wants to apply it to modeling some biological problems. Actually, biomath has become more and more popular in the recent years and this book provides a clear and thorough review for some most interesting topics out there. The book serves well as both textbook and reference book. It is very well written, organized, full of examples and the proofs were given in details whenever necessary. Nothing comes out in a sudden and this is very important for a math book. One feature I particularly like is at the beginning of each chapter, some brief review involving the key math technique is given, which saves a lot of time for people like me who almost completely forgot how to solve ODE. BTW, some of the exercises after each chapter are quite challenging but interesting too. Overall, it is a great book and I would recommend it to anyone who want to gain an overall view of biomathematics.

KEY BENEFIT: This reference introduces a variety of mathematical models for biological systems, and presents the mathematical theory and techniques useful in analyzing those models. Material is organized according to the mathematical theory rather than the biological application. Contains applications of mathematical theory to biological examples in each chapter. Focuses on deterministic mathematical models with an emphasis on predicting the qualitative solution behavior over time. Discusses classical mathematical models from population , including the Leslie matrix model, the Nicholson-Bailey model, and the Lotka-Volterra predator-prey model. Also discusses more recent models, such as a model for the Human Immunodeficiency Virus - HIV and a model for flour beetles. KEY MARKET: Readersseeking a solid background in the mathematics behind modeling in biology and exposure to a wide variety of mathematical models in biology.
