(More customer reviews)I was first introduced to Brian Fagan when I purchased an audio cassette program from "The Learning Company" on ancient Rome. Professor Fagan brought the subject alive in a manner I had never experienced before. The history was compelling, exciting, and I learned more about ancient Rome than from any other single source. Since then I have read many of his books, and I have found "Ancient Lives" to be a wonderful introductory text to the science and appeal of archaeology. I have purchased several copies for friends. It absolutely, positively does not read like a textbook. This is archaeology at its best!
