LEGAL RESEARCH, ANALYSIS, AND WRITING provides everything you need to learn in order to successfully research and analyze law.
"How to write a Case Brief" gives instructions on how to write one of the most important documents in the legal field.
One of the fundamentals that the authors stress in the book is preparation. Preparation can cut down on costs and make the research process shorter and more effective.
Case Projects and Research Assignments and Activities are essential exercises to educate the reader.
Some other features that are particularly helpful for me:
*The Figures showing pages from codebooks, websites, and books for research. This shows the reader what theses sources look like. The page layout, diagrams, and labels break down each figure making it easier to navigate the source in the pictures.
* A Point to Remember are assorted, helpful tips scattered throughout the book.
*Appendix B - a basic Citation Reference Guide. Also references to citation rules from The Bluebook.
This book provides very detailed information about citing cases, analyzing legal issues, and research using both on-line and print resources.
Legal writing is addressed with suggestions on how to start the writing process, the difference in types of documents and how they differ in style or content.
Two words that sum up this edition for me are Detailed and Professional. I'm keeping my copy so that I can refer back to it when I need to.

Plain Language Pleadings Review

Plain Language Pleadings

This book is a must for legal writers, whether legal secretaries, legal assistants, or lawyers. Many times I have had to draft a motion or some other court document and just needed something to get me started. Voila! There it was in her book. I keep it handy at all times. Also important is her explanation of the different styles of pleadings. I've never seen it explained anywhere else. This is a godsend when a lawyer asks, "Which is the correct format?" Since I started using her book and following plain language principles, I've talked with several judges about it. They say plain language pleadings are just as "legal" as the wordy ones and when lawyers use plain language, it helps the judges plow through the daily mounds of paper they must deal with. These judges tell me that if more lawyers would read and follow Carol Ann's book, the judges would be much happier to see them in their courts!
