(More customer reviews)In general, textbooks for EMTs and paramedics tend not to give women and their special issues a lot of ink. Obstetrical and gynecological texts for physicians and nurses aren't usually applicable to first responders. Essentials of Prehospital Maternity Care is evidently the only book, in print or out, that fills this large void. Fortunately, it's excellent, full of current information, useful illustrations, and clear procedures. The author's background as a paramedic and an Ivy League-educated midwife gives her valuable insights into the subjects she writes about. Although this book is obviously designed for classroom instruction, it doesn't read like a textbook. The author's style makes even difficult material interesting enough to hold the attention of independent students at any level of expertise. Parents-to-be could also learn a great deal from it, no matter whether they expect to deliver at home.
